Help me please! i have a question about English word usage.?

when you refer to a specific area you use it as a singular word. for example the temperature in Las Vegas, as generally it will be the same temperature throughout that smaller area. when you refer to a greater area that may have variations in temperature because of its size you start to use it as a plural, for example, the temperatures in America. hope that helps.
